Congratulations to this year’s musicians recognized as 2022 NEA Jazz Masters—Stanley Clarke, Donald Harrison, Jr., Billy Hart, and Cassandra Wilson.
There will be a concert tonight live in San Francisco that will also be live streamed and available via many radio stations. For details of the coverage online and on radio, the concert starts at 7:30pm Pacific Time and all the details can be found here.
Of specific interest is, and congratulations go to Donald Harrison, Jr. who featured on many of the “CTI V3” releases in the 1990’s[1]Donald Harrison | Discography | Discogs. These include his own album as a leader “The Power Of Cool” as well as the Charles Fambrough “Blues At Bradleys” and the Ted Rosenthal “Calling You”.
I did reach out to Mr Harrison for an interview, but we were not able to agree a date before tonight’s concert. I hope to have something to follow-up in the coming weeks.

See you at the concert tonight!
The Devils Toothpick
One of the best examples from that period is the laserdisc “The Devils Toothpick“. A Creed Taylor film shot in Bahia, Brazil contains a fascinating timepiece art music video. Harrison can be seen in the opening title sequence as well as others.
I put the laserdisc conversion on youtube as age restricted, in contains brief nudity and thus can’t be embedded into web pages and must be watched on Youtube.
