Two Double sided laserdiscs, almost 2-hours of live jazz

Strictly not a Creed Taylor produced effort, but a tribute to Blue Note founders, Alfred Lion, Max Margulis, and Francis Wolff. Notwithstanding that, the recordings here were recovered from laserdiscs, and feature many artists, both leaders and sidemen that were signed to, or performed for CTI, including Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter, Kenny Burrell, Grover Washington Jr, and many more.

As I continue on my exploration of CTI/KUDU artists on film, I came across this two laserdisc set, both discs are double sided, which is unusual since you can cram pretty much an hour per side. I checked and there was a DVD issue in 2003 with a slightly different track listing. Also No where is the full set online as a single set/film.

February 22nd, 1985 almost thirty major jazz artists gathered at Town Hall in New York City to celebrate the one element that they all had in common, a significant relationship with Blue Note Records. Here is the full laserdisc set, in a single movie.

If you are a Blue Note fan, getting the DVD version is well worth the effort, especially if you can source it used. The DVD comes with a whole host of additional material. However, almost 20-years before the DVD, came the laserdiscs, analogue video, with CD quality audio. Enjoy.
