I’m sure dedicated vinyl fans feel Record Store Day is still an exciting wait. As a more general music collector, from a jazz perspective while the first drop of 2023 looks more promising than perhaps the entirety of 2022, it still looks like labels trawling for unreleased or bootlegged live sets. Still nothing from CTI/KUDU and A&M/CTI reissues.
The full RSD 2023 list can been seen herehttps://recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases via the web, or herehttps://recordstoreday.s3.amazonaws.com/2023/2023_RSD_PUBLIC.pdf in PDF form. Anything catch your eye? Leave a comment. I’ll be first in line for a copy of Terry Callier’s “Hidden Conversations” on 180g vinyl.
I’m not aware of any scheduled CTI/KUDU and A&M/CTI reissues. Although my disappointment from last year has been tempered by the streaming release of the 2020 Stonebone albumStonebone – Finally! – Creed Taylor Produced (ctproduced.com).
Here is a surprise reissue that I tripped over while doing a research project for an upcoming post. Tamiko Jones, 1968 album, “I’ll Be Anything For You” produced by Creed for A&M/CTI, was reissued in 2020 by British company – Pleasure for Music as “PFM 103LP”.
The reissue was no doubt spurred on by the continued discovery of up-tempo stompers by British Northern Soul fans. Jones recorded some great pop singles before heading down the jazz path with Taylor and Herbie Mann. This release was likely spurred on by the inclusion of her track “Can’t Live Without Your Love” from a 1979 12-inch single, remixed on “John Morales presents The M+M Mixes Vol. 4”. The track can be heard herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbqdPbWqm2M on youtube.
